Kemco Systems introduces Nadia Vaca Diez as our newest Industrial Engineering intern. Originally from Santa Cruz, Bolivia; she is a rising senior at the University of South Florida and will complete a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering in the coming year.
Her role as an industrial engineering intern at Kemco has given Nadia very diverse responsibilities. For one of her projects, she is leading a Capital Project Value Stream Map. This task requires her to map the entire process of certain projects and collaborate with each department’s leaders to streamline communication and enhance efficiency from the time Kemco receives a project to the shipment of the final product. Additionally, Nadia is working on a time study to set a standard time to control performance of Kemco’s HatchRO. She has also created a Standard Operation Procedure video in order help operators work with this system in the future.
Nadia rises to the challenge in a role that requires the management of many moving parts, and the implementation of critical thinking skills. When asked what she likes about her internship, Nadia mentions, “my job does not require that I sit at a desk all day, but also allows me to communicate throughout the facility.”
She enjoys the variety of her responsibilities, and the opportunities to work with the leadership at Kemco. She states, “I get to work with every person at the company, where an intern at a different company may never get the chance to speak with a CEO or Head of Engineering. I learn from the leadership team daily.”
When asked why she chose Kemco, she mentions that the company places an emphasis not only the hands-on applications of her studies, but also professional development. “Professional development is very important to be able to succeed in the professional world. Being able to have this training has helped me to understand the importance of effective communication and the different soft and professional skills that companies look for in an employee.”
Additionally, she enjoys the work environment of Kemco. Nadia states that what she admires the most about the people who work in the company is their focus on teamwork and their desire to improve and grow with Kemco as a company that is committed to the environment.
She is hoping to learn where her interests lie in the industrial engineering field from her experiences at Kemco, where she has been able to work closely with the logistics, supply chain, and quality team.
Nadia’s can-do personality and her eagerness to learn make her a joy to have at Kemco, and we are looking forward to watching her grow with us and in her future career endeavors.
